A Guide To Cricket Equipment Being Used By The 2023 Cricket World Cup Stars

The 2023 Cricket World Cup in India has been another spectacle for cricket fans around the world and the best players in the world have come to the fore.

Those players have been kitted out in the best equipment and this blog will tell you what you can buy from Serious Cricket to look and feel like the best.

Cricket Bats

Let’s start with the batters and what they have been using while piling on the runs:

MRF

The MRF-branded bat is used exclusively at this World Cup by the top run-scorer of the competition, Virat Kohli.

Kohli uses the MRF Genius bat, the current bat is the third edition and is designed to maximise balance and power. There is also a MRF Wizard which is a move away from the iconic red to black.

It has become synonymous with the former Indian captain, and you emulate an all-time great of the game. There is a very limited stock left but you can expect the 2024 range in March at Serious Cricket.

DSC Fearless

The breakout star of the World Cup has undoubtedly been New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra, he had never batted above six in a one-day international before smashing an unbeaten century against England in the opening game of the tournament.

From there he has gone from strength to strength and has used a DSC bat on the way to scoring 565 runs in the group stages.

Ravindra’s Black DSC XLite 2.0 will be launching very soon at Serious.

Kookaburra

The greatest ODI innings of all time took place at this World Cup when Glenn Maxwell struck an unbeaten double century while suffering from cramp to snatch victory from Afghanistan and secure Australia a place in the semi-finals.

Maxwell was using the Beast during his innings which he has used since it returned to the range. Kookaburra markets the bat as one with match-winning potential due to the pickup and counterbalance handle.

The 3.1 version is still available at Serious Cricket, which UK version of the Beast, so you can win matches for your team.

The Kahuna bat is also trusted by England captain Jos Buttler and while he did not have the best World Cup, we cannot wait to see him back to his best using his Kookaburra.

Gunn & Moore

While England did not have a tournament to remember, we did get to witness Ben Stokes’ new BS55 Diamond being unleashed when he smashed his first World Cup century and averaged over 50.

Another Gunn & Moore user is Aiden Markram who has enjoyed success, scoring just short of 400 runs with the GM Hypa which has been refreshed in the 2024 range.

Gray-Nicolls

Another very memorable innings was the 170 not out smashed by Mitchell Marsh in Australia’s last group game with his Gray-Nicolls bat.

There were also Gray-Nicolls centuries from Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell.

While Mitchell and Marsh use bats from the Australian/New Zealand Gray-Nicolls range, there is an extensive range sold in the UK.

Pakistan superstars Mohammed Rizwan and Babar Azam also modelled the 2024 GN range as they used the Shockwave 2.3 and Tempesta 1.3 respectively.

This bat and the rest of the 2024 range are available online and in-store at Serious Cricket.

New Balance

New Balance is another bat brand which is used by some of the top players in the world, including Steve Smith, the DC, and Joe Root, the TC.

New Balance is also used by two captains, South Africa’s Temba Bavuma, who uses the Heritage, and Australia's Pat Cummins, who uses the DC, in this World Cup.

The two used their New Balances when they faced off in the World Cup semi-final.

Cricket Footwear

Cricket shoes are another vital part of top players' repertoire, and it is no different for club cricketers.

Spikes are especially important for bowlers who rely on their support, so, what shoes are the top players wearing?

Adidas

The number one ODI bowler in the world, Keshav Maharaj, uses Adidas so they are trusted by the best. Maharaj is not the only top bowler as Shaheen Shah Afridi and Jasprit Bumrah also use Adidas shoes.

Most international bowlers use the Adidas Vector spikes which are designed to provide cushioning and stability when bowling and you can purchase four different styles of Adidas shoes online and in-store at Serious Cricket.

Payntr

The leg-spinning duo of Rashid Khan and Shadab Khan have used Payntr shoes at this World Cup which says all you need to know about their quality.

There is a fantastic range of quality and choice when it comes to this brand at Serious Cricket and the owner of the company David Paynter even came to visit us to discuss his shoes.

Rashid uses the Payntr XPF 19 in blue while Shadab uses the Payntr V in green to match their country’s colours.

New Balance

Another rising star of the Cricket World Cup is Gerald Coetzee, who has taken 18 wickets through the middle overs for South Africa.

He uses New Balance CK4040 bowling shoes, with a strap and FuelCell foam midsole which you can purchase at Serious Cricket!

Gray-Nicolls

Gray-Nicolls are well-known as one of the leading brands in cricket equipment and their cricket spikes are no different.

Charith Asalanka is a testament to this as he is fully kitted out by GN, including his spikes, which helped him score almost 300 runs. Rizwan even matches his green Gray-Nicolls shoes to his Pakistan kit.

There is the choice of the Revo Pro 1.0 or the Velocity 4.0 when it comes to Gray-Nicolls spikes.

Wicket Keeping Kit

Wicketkeepers need lots of additional kit to perform at their best, it is important at whatever level you to have gloves and pads that are comfortable to use.

Here is the equipment the best keepers are using:

Kookaburra

Out of the top four wicketkeepers in terms of dismissals, two of them use Kookaburra keeping kit.

Jos Buttler and Scott Edwards also captain their sides, England and the Netherlands respectively, and are kitted out in Kookaburra gear.  Buttler had 11 dismissals, while Edwards had 15 in the group stages.

Gray Nicolls

Equal with Buttler on 11 dismissals was Pakistan keeper Rizwan and he uses Gray Nicolls keeping pads and gloves.

His 2024 1000 black gloves are available at Serious Cricket, both online and in-store now.

Cricket Helmets

Finally, helmets are essential for playing cricket and at Serious Cricket we stock two helmet brands that have dominated at the Cricket World Cup.

Masuri

Masuri take a detailed look at maximising protection and combining it with comfort so there is no surprise they are trusted by so many of the top players in the world.

At Serious Cricket, there are three colour choices and lots of styles to choose from including a wicket-keeper-specific option.

These styles range from the Truefit 3D E Line Steel helmet which is the advanced technology used by many professional players and which has been explained on Sky Sports. There is also the T Line Steel Cricket helmet, also designed with elite players in mind and a specific wicket-keeping option in the T Line Titanium helmet.

Gray Nicolls

Amongst all the rest of their equipment, Gray Nicolls does top-class helmets which you can purchase from us at Serious Cricket.
