What Teamwear Does Your Hockey Club Need?

The value of teamwear comes from the increased sense of identity your team gets when they all have the same kit.

However, there are some practical considerations for your hockey club to make sure you are adequately kitted out for the season.

In this blog, we will take you through the four most important factors of organising hockey teamwear.

Hockey Match Kit

The match kit is essential as you will need this as a minimum if you want to play the matches.

This hockey match kit will consist of a match shirt, shorts or skorts, and hockey socks.

The shirt can be bespoke-made to bring your team colours and logos to life and suppliers will often provide a kit designer for you to build your own kit.

At Serious Sport, you can create all three of your match garments on our online 3D kit designer. There are lots of templates available, but our in-house design team will be on hand to help you design a shirt that best displays what your team represents.

Hockey-Specific Kit

To play hockey in most leagues you will be required to wear shinpads which means you will need socks that are long and stretchy enough to fit them underneath.

The colour of socks is also important for hockey teams as you want to avoid clashes between teams as socks are often what you notice when you are dribbling with your head down.

This means that teams are likely to need a home and away shirt and socks while also bearing in mind that you might need to match your home shirt with your away socks and vice versa.

There is also the footless sock revolution which has made its way into football and hockey predominantly. Traditionally, you would just take normal socks and cut the feet off but now kit suppliers are selling them already footless.

Another important aspect is the goalkeeper Smock which is a match shirt big enough to fit around the padding a goalkeeper needs. At Serious Sport, we recommend ordering the smock two sizes above what you would normally get to fill this brief.

Hockey Training Kit

Now onto the non-essential items but equally important in building a team spirit and being kitted out for weekly training sessions and before and after the game.

Most hockey kit suppliers will offer the full training range such as tracksuits bottoms, hoodies, jumpers, shorts, and a training shirt.

Clubs can choose how much of this kit they would like to offer but many of our clubs suggest their players get at least one of these items so the whole team will be uniform while they warm up as well.

Hockey Accessories

There are always other teamwear items which are useful, especially for hockey which is a winter sport but often has summer leagues.

This means a team could well need bench coats and bobble hats for the regular season but vests and sun hats for the summer league.

On a Serious Sport team store, the club team store admin will get the choice of which of these items they want to offer their club.
