How To Design The Perfect Football Shirt

A football shirt means a lot to teams because it represents something more to players and fans.

That is why getting the football shirt design process right is very important for clubs.

Whether you are in the upper echelons of non-league football or are a group of mates playing five-a-side, here are some tips on how to design the perfect football shirt.

Short or Long Sleeve

If you are designing your kit on an online kit builder, the first choice you will encounter is often whether you want short sleeve or long sleeve.

It is an important question in terms of weather, preference, and even style.  You will probably pay slightly more for the long-sleeve but it is certainly becoming more aesthetically popular.

Another factor to consider is goalkeepers, who prefer to have long sleeves, and at Serious Sport, you can also include elbow pads to help support goalies when they dive.

Modern or Traditional

Another important factor is the design you choose because you will most likely have the choice of lots of templates.

You want a design that properly highlights your team’s identity and can choose between a modern design and traditional shapes.

Teams such as Newcastle who have always been synonymous with their stripes might inspire you to choose a classic design.

Alternatively, you might have seen standout kits like Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup which you can try and replicate with your own colours.

At Serious Sport, we have an in-house design team who can supplement our templates and make your kit dreams a reality.

Personalising Your Football Shirt

Personalisation is vital to make your kit unique and independent to your team.

This might come from your team colours, logos, or sponsors which you can incorporate seamlessly into your bespoke design.

At Serious Sport, we use a process called sublimation for our bespoke football kits which involves dying a design into a white piece of fabric. This means we have great flexibility on what clubs can create.

Fabric Choice

Teamwear suppliers will hopefully offer a range of fabrics to choose from so there is an option and price point for every level of football team.

There will be pro fabrics which are closer aligned to the kits used by Premier League teams but naturally they will be slightly more expensive.

Then there are more affordable fabric options which will still be of good quality but might not be as stretchy and durable as the pro fabrics.
