How To Apply A Grip To A Cricket Bat?

Whether your cricket grip is getting tired or you fancy a new colour, re-gripping your bat can be frustrating.

In this blog, we will give you some tips so you can master an important cricketing skill and re-grip the bat yourself.

Re-applying a cricket grip is one of those skills which is tricky at first but once you have the right equipment and have done it a few times you'll be able to do it in a matter of seconds and, no doubt, you'll be inundated with teammates asking for your help.

Firstly, you'll need a cricket bat gripping cone, which you can purchase at Serious Cricket.

The batting cone is an 'old school' method, but the process still works so it remains effective.

To start, slide the grip (what will be the top of the grip goes on first), onto the cone until it gets stuck. Then, roll it upwards so it forms a mushroom shape and then take it off the cone and put it back on the other way around.

You should find a solid surface and use it to roll the grip down until it is on the metal section at the bottom of the cone. This step will take some effort so be careful not to rip the grip or give yourself a blister!

Then put the metal bit of the cone on top of the bat handle and roll the grip (which should be in a doughnut shape), onto the handle.

Roll your doughnut right to the bottom of the handle and then spread it over the whole handle which should leave some small adjustments to straighten out.

Once this is done, you're ready to bat but there are a few more things that will help ensure this grip will last for the foreseeable future.

*Please note that the grip will often move up the handle over time so we suggest taping it at the bottom to seal it in position.

At Serious Cricket, we have a wide variety of cricket grips available which can be found here.

We often get asked about the cricket vacuum applicator which was brought in as a simpler way to apply a cricket grip.

However, the applicator often broke so it was unfortunately discontinued.
